OVMS Adulting Club was treated to a lesson from the Owen County Homemakers on cooking pancakes.

We are sad to see Justin Lowry leave OVMS. He has been a dedicated asset to the OVMS community. Justin has committed countless hours to the athletes and athletic program at Owen Valley. We no doubt will have big shoes to fill. However, we wish him the best of luck as he begins a new chapter in his life at South Vermillion High School.
The community is invited to honor Justin and his dedication to OVMS at a reception on December 13th following the 8th grade boys basketball game at approximately 8:30 PM
SAVE THE DATE: OVMS night at the Indiana Pacers will be Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 7:00 PM. The Pacers will take on the Timberwolves of Minnesota at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. A portion of the tickets sold for OVMS Night will be donated to back to the school.

Can't make the game on March 7th. The Indiana Pacers have also reserved March 18th v. Cleveland; April 1st v. Brooklyn, and April 14th v. Atlanta.
OVMS PE Classes spent the week learning how to shoot a bow and arrow as well as safety of the sport. Archery is one of the most popular units they study during the semester.
OVMS is collecting 500 piece puzzles for a Puzzle Challenge in December.
Donated puzzles can be dropped off at the middle school office from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM.
OVMS honored several students as "True Patriots" at the quarterly luncheon on Wednesday.
A True Patriot is defined as, "A student who shows outstanding character, kindness, academic effort, and great behavior".
Teachers selected one student from all of their classes as a True Patriot. These students are our first quarter recipients.
The Student Council is excited to announce our upcoming Can Food Drive. Collection of the canned goods will take place on Monday and Tuesday, November 20th-21st. This event aims to bring our school community together to make a positive impact on those in need during the holiday season.
We encourage all students and faculty to participate by donating non-perishable canned goods. Each contribution will go towards supporting local food banks and helping families in our community enjoy a warm and nourishing meal during the holidays.
To add a fun and competitive twist to the event, we are introducing a friendly competition among PRIDE classes. The PRIDE class with the highest number of donated items will be crowned the winner and rewarded with a Donut Party!
Let's work together to make this Can Food Drive a huge success and spread the joy of giving. Your generosity can make a real difference in the lives of those less fortunate, and we believe that coming together as a community will make our efforts even more impactful.
OVMS inducted its 10th class of students into the National Junior Honor Society. To be eligible for NJHS, students must earn A's in all of their classes for the first five quarters of middle school. Congratulations on your hard work!
OVMS Students were treated to an assembly by Echo Dance from New York City. The students loved the music and were highly engaged. Echo Dance team shared their personal stories about being bullied in school. Echo Dance encouraged the students to set goals, persevere, and work hard to achieve those goals. Their message included an anti-bullying message and to be kind and respectful to their classmates.

Our first middle school dance is on Friday, October 27.
The Fall Flannel Frenzy starts at 6:00 PM and ends at 8:00 PM. Students must go home after school and then return at 6:00. Please drop your child off and pick them up at the front entrance.
The cost is $3.00 to get into the dance. Students can wear their favorite flannel shirt, dance, and play cornhole. Concessions will also be available to purchase.
The deadline for the 8th grade t-shirts has been extended. Any 8th grader who is interested show complete the attached order form. Orders are due by next Friday (October 27th).

OVMS 7TH GRADER, KENDALL FREEMAN, SELECTED TO REPRESENT THE USA ON THE EUROPE TOUR IN GERMANY, AUSTRIA, AND ITALY
Spencer, Indiana – October 16, 2023 – Kendall Freeman, a local 7th grade
basketball player from Owen Valley Middle School, has been selected by PhD
Hoops to represent the United States of America in an international basketball
competition on the Europe Tour in Germany, Austria, and Italy between the dates
of June 16 - June 25, 2024.
Out of a large pool of applicants, Kendall Freeman was chosen for this tour
based on her playing ability and skills, and overall character. Kendall has
shown dedication to the game and is a great leader and team player on the
court. These are some of the skills that identified her through the
recruitment process.
PhD Hoops believes in the development of players both on and off the court,
combining the thrill of international basketball competition with a cultural
education that lasts a lifetime. The PhD Hoops staff has a history of leading players
across different continents to enjoy this unique experience and takes great pride in
selecting players who are the right fit to represent Team USA in the highest regard.

Be part of the winning tradition. Wrestling provides an opportunity for everyone to participate regardless of size, weight, or gender. Wrestling preseason will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting October 17th. Practice time is 3:30-5:30, meet in the cafeteria. We will be lifting weights and wrestling during each preseason session. OVMS has been working hard to plan Parent Teacher Conferences this year. Beginning on Wednesday, October 4th, teachers will begin contacting parents/guardians to schedule conferences. Conferences can be held on Wednesday, October 18th and Thursday, October 19th, 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM in the middle school cafeteria. When your child’s PRIDE teacher contacts you, please schedule a time that is convenient for you and your family.
