Angela Mayle -
Special Education Teacher - PreK &K
My name is Angela Mayle and I am a Special Education Teacher for PreKindergarten and Kindergarten students. I have been a Teacher for 17 years and in the Spencer-Owen Community School system for 12 years. I have taught at all age levels (high school, middle school, intermediate, and primary). I especially enjoy working in the PreK and K classrooms as these years are their first experiences with school. Even though we think of children being in school to learn academics, I continue to value the importance of play for this age. Below is a quote from Mr. Rogers about how important play is in the life of a young child. Although it is not always possible in a school setting, I believe any time we can incorporate play into learning, children are developing several key skills (cognitive, social-emotional, fine and gross motor, etc.) that contribute to being a successful adult.
During any e-learning days, I will be contacting parents of students that I work with directly via remind, email, and/or phone calls. Based on each individual student's needs, I will work with teachers or parents to determine how best to provide support.
"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But, for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood."
Fred Rogers
