J.K.

Hello, my name is Mr. James Klyczek (pronounced KLY like fly, ZEK) or you can call me Mr. K, and I am excited to begin my teaching journey at OVHS. I am thrilled to get to know and work with your child/ children this school year.

I graduated high school nearby from Edgewood High School. After high school, I decided to join the work force. I found my way back into a school as an Instructional Assistant. After four years working as an Instructional Assistant, I decided that I wanted to take the next step and get my teaching license. I attended Ivy Tech Community College before transferring to Indiana University. I majored in Secondary Special Education. I student taught at Owen Valley High School which was a very positive experience for me. I have worked as an Inclusion teacher at OVMS for a year before coming to OVHS for this school year.

I have been involved in coaching both high school football and high school track for nine years thus far. Currently, I am the Head Coach for OVHS Boys Track.

I am excited to be one of your child's teachers, and part of the Owen Valley High School team.

Sincerely,

Mr. Klyczek / Mr. K

Basic Skills Syllabus

2023-2024 School Year

Grading for Basic Skills:

Daily grade of 10 points, resulting in a weekly grade of 50 points. The daily 10 points are earned by working on classwork or homework during Basic Skills class. If the student is able to show that they have zero missing assignments and have no work to do, then the student will receive 10 points for the day.

The second part of the weekly grade is a grade check that occurs on every Friday. If the student has a grade of a low F (less than 30%), then the student will be docked 3 points for the week. If the student has a grade of a F (above 30%), then the student will be docked 2 points for the week. If the student has a grade of a D, then the student will be docked 1 point. Every student will be treated on an individual basis depending on their needs.

Restroom Policy:

*Unless medically noted

5 Passes per 9 Weeks. Additional restroom breaks will result in -5 points for that day. Only one student permitted at a time. The goal is to encourage time management strategies to prevent the need for excessive restroom breaks.

* While these guidelines are very general, each student will be treated on an individual basis.

Thank you,

Mr. James Klyczek
