Mrs. Roofe's Sixth Grade All Stars

My name is Shelly Roofe and I have been teaching in the Spencer-Owen district for over 20 years. Together, my husband and I have four children ranging in ages from 17 - 24. I am an Owen Valley graduate myself, and wanted nothing more than to teach in my home town. I enjoy spending time with my children and working in my shop making shirts and all kinds of things. I'm a member of the praise and worship team at the Lighthouse Fellowship Church, and I get to share the stage with my youngest son which is pretty awesome. My family is very active and our schedule is always packed full.

Meet my family!
Makalynn is the youngest. She's a Junior at Martinsville HS and loves basketball. She's very athletic and when she's not tearing it up on the court, she's helping me win softball games on the field. We really enjoy playing co-ed softball together.
Lindsay is a Freshman this year at Ivy Tech and is our girly-girl. She just started the nursing program. She has a servant's heart so I know she'll succeed in the program.
Noah is the giant of the family, standing tall at 6'5". He was a 3-sport athlete in high school and a member of the Patriot Choirs for 6 years. He loves to sing like his mom! He still lives at home and works for his brother's construction company where he is part owner.
Parker and his wife, Kyrstin, live in Worthington, IN. He owns Midwest Builds, LLC construction company and can pretty much build anything. He's very outgoing, loves trucks, and is an athlete too. Parker went to Taylor University to play baseball after high school. He and Kyrstin were married Sept. of 2023. Maybe I'll have grandbabies someday soon.
Also in the picture, you will see, Chase. He was my step son from a previous marriage and we still consider him part of the family. He is 25 and lives in Bloomington with her girlfriend, Kyra.
Mike is my dedicated husband. He is a girl's basketball coach at Owen Valley Middle School. He works for MDV Spartan-Nash, and enjoys playing golf in his free time or softball with me and the kids on our co-ed team.
Every year I get to teach young minds, I always share with them my favorite quote. Now more than ever, I think we need to really live by it.
"If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude."

What are we learning about?
Every week, I post "I can" statements on my board to let the kids know what they'll be learning. I encourage you to ask your children what they read on the board each week so you can stay up-to-date.
