McCORMICK’S CREEK ELEMENTARY PROCEDURES

Student Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Arrival

  • Students may enter the building at 7:50 a.m. Students who arrive before 7:50 must be signed into Latchkey.
  • Parents may drop students off along the yellow curb.
  • Parents who enter the building must park in a parking space. Cars may not be left unattended by the yellow curb.
  • School will begin promptly at 8:15 am.
  • Students who arrive after 8:15 must be signed in by an adult at the office.

Dismissal

· Students will leave the classrooms at 2:50 p.m.

  • Parents wishing to come into the building to pick up students must park in the front parking lot and wait for students in the atrium. Parents are asked not to wait for students outside the classroom door.
  • Students being picked up will exit through the main entrance where cars will be parked along the front sidewalk.
  • Parents who park in the front parking lot should walk to the cross walk and meet their child. No child should be in the parking lot unaccompanied by an adult.

If a student must leave school early, the parent or guardian should come to the office to sign them out. A secretary will call the student down to the office to be dismissed. A student will not be called from class until the parent arrives to sign them out.

Attendance

Parents are asked to call the school by 9:00 a.m. if a student is absent. A note explaining the absence should be sent to the office when the student returns to school. The note must be received within three days of the student’s return to school in order for the absence to be excused.

Birthday Celebrations

Some parents choose to bring or send in a treat for the whole class to celebrate a student’s birthday. Parents are asked to make arrangements for the treat with the classroom teacher at least two days in advance. Treats should not include hard candy, gum or balloons.

Kindergarten Daycare

Kindergarten Daycare (K-Day) is available at a cost of $40 per week. Enrollment forms are available in the office.

Latchkey

The local YMCA operates a before and after school care program at MCES. Childcare is available before school beginning at 7:00 am and after school until 6:00 p.m. Enrollment forms are available at the YMCA, 828-9622.

Messages for Students

Students will follow their normal dismissal routine (ride the bus, go to latchkey, or go to the front to be picked up) unless the office receives a note or a phone call. Parents are asked to call the office before 2:00 pm so that there is sufficient time to deliver the message without interrupting classroom instruction. Please leave the message with one of the secretaries (not on the teacher’s voice mail).

Parking

Parent and visitor parking is available in the front lot of the school. Cars should never be left unattended along the yellow curb in front of the school.

Phone Calls

Parent teacher communication is a vital part of a child’s education. It is also important that student receive high quality instruction that is free from interruption. During class time, calls to teachers will be directed to the teacher’s voice mail. Email is also a convenient and effective means of communication.

Student Information

Parents may access their student’s information including ISTEP+ scores, report card grades, discipline records, and lunch account balances on a link from the school website. Parents may contact the school office to receive a password.

Volunteers

All parent volunteers must have a current, completed criminal history check on file in the office. The criminal history check must be completed each year. Volunteer forms and criminal history check requests must be turned in to the office two weeks in advance of the field trip in order for the parent to be eligible to attend the field trip.

School policies including dress code, discipline procedures, and cell phone use, etc. are explained in the student handbook, which is part of the student agenda for grades 2-6 and printed separately for grades K-1. Please read these policies and discuss them with your child.
